When it’s raining while the sun is shining, it’s called a sunshower. Sunshower conditions can occur for a few reasons, including:

Strong winds
Winds from a distant rainstorm can blow raindrops into an area without clouds.

Dissipating clouds
A cloud that’s losing moisture, or one that’s too warm to reach the dew point, can rapidly dissipate.

Low sun angle
When the sun is low in the sky, it can create a sunshower without being blocked by clouds.

Sunshowers are usually light and brief, and some believe they can lead to a heavy downpour the following day. If the sun is low in the sky during a sunshower, a rainbow may appear.
